My mantra: It's far easier to elect a conservative Congress with an honest socialist in the White House as opposed to a de facto socialist that has made a career of enervating the conservative base.

Hillary and Obama are unreconstructed socialists. Once in power, they are an opaque target that conservatives and Republicans can assault uninhibited. With McCain in the White House, we're stuck with another 4 years of lukewarm to nonexistent activity in the base and more "compassionate conservatism" (socialism-lite).

The only disaster I can see looming in the wake of a Democrat win in November is if Kennedy retires along with Ginsburg and Stevens. That would put the SCOTUS on firmly leftist footing for a generation or more. But even if McCain wins, I seriously doubt that anyone more conservative than Kennedy would be put in his place.

So, the choice is between losing a little ground and losing a lot of ground in the SCOTUS and potentially losing a lot of ground in the Congress with McCain or gaining ground (through opposition/gridlock) under a Democrat President. My concern is conservative governance, not Republican. If I can accomplish more as a highly vocal, energized minority than as a lackluster, "go-along-get-along" majority, I choose the former.

Isn't it something... staunch conservatives who are trying to figure out which of the democrat candidates they would prefer as President. So I'm not alone in the assumption that the donkeys will take the White House, huh?

S'okay. God's in control. And we got Ronald Reagan after Jimmy Carter. That's my mantra.
